Energy management – a challenge and an opportunity for companies

The European Union has set itself the ambitious goal
to drive forward climate protection until the year 2020.

Based on this there are targets set throughout the
whole of Europe to achieve:

  • 20% less greenhouse gas emissions than in 2005
  • a proportion of 20% of energy used coming from
    renewable energy sources
  • 20% greater energy efficiency

In the course of meeting these targets companies receive back part of their energy tax as far as they introduce an energy management system according to DIN EN ISO 50001. The international standard sets
requirements in terms of use of energy and consumption of energy.

The goal is to put companies in the position, based on a systematic approach, to achieve continuous improvement in energy-related services, including:

  • energy efficiency
  • use of energy
  • consumption of energy

The basic requirement for a transparent energy management system is a continuous and reliable measurement of energy. Only
when this data is available it is possible to identify the points of consumption, to analyse these and to optimise them in a next step.
